I came to my AS diagnosis relatively late in life (late 30's) and I have struggled to put things into perspective. I am at peace with my diagnosis at this point but I still found reading this book informative. I really appreciate being able to amalgamate other people's perspectives into my own. This is a quick, worthwhile read.
I bought this book for my 11yo son with AS, to show him that he's not the only person who struggles and that he can learn from others who have already gained wisdom on living with AS. He enjoyed it very much, and I think it helped him feel less anxious about getting through middle school.
I've read quite a number of articles/books by people on the spectrum, and when I think of one to recommend to people: it is generally this one. Luke has a very accessible way of writing, he draws the reader into his stories/anecdotes and provides a lot of useful information, and a great perspective, coupled with a great sense of humor. Also, it's a rather quick read with some great advice that should be taken seriously.If you are looking to understand what is it like to be on the spectrum, whether you have a child, a friend, or are just curious, this book will be an excellent starting point.

I read this book on behalf of my WONDERFUL 4-year-old son who is currently diagnosed PDD(NOS) until they can come up with a better label. I got this read to help me understand where he might be headed and what I might do to help him through adolescence or life in general. The author, a 13-year-old child with Aspergers Syndrome(AS) gave me exactly what I was looking for: A book crammed-full of personal experience for me AND my son to draw on now and in the future. It is useful, hopeful, and humbling. If you have and autism spectrum disorder or if you know anyone who has, read this book. Heck, read it anyway!
I really liked this book. It is written by a child who actually has Asperger's syndrome. He is very candid, and the book is well written. It's like he's having a conversation with you. He explains how it feels to have asperger's, the emotions, the confusion, and all the highs and lows. I had my sister read this also since her oldest son has Asperger's. It shed a lot of light on how it feels to have this, and how interesting these people really are!
My four year old niece was just diagnosed with Asperger's so I have been reading anything I can get my hands on to understand her. This book is very well written by a 13 year old boy. His sense of humor and his descriptions of what it is like to see the world from a different point of view is quite informative. Most of us NTs (I learned that that is the description used by those who are not on the autism spectum) have an idea that people with this syndrome cannot relate to the world and the people in it. While it may be difficult for them, this boy proves otherwise and was such an encouragement and helped me understand a little more what my niece might be going through as she lives in this world. This book is definately recommended for anyone who would like to understand what life is like for anyone with this syndrome.
My 18yr old son was recently diagnosed with Asperger's and this book has not left his sight since I handed it to him. He carries it with him to school, to work, and is reading it very carefully. He has told me that it is a great book, and although the boy who the book is about is much younger than my son, they have gone through the same things. Luke's experiences and his way of talking about Asperger's and how it effects every part of his life has helped my son to understand so many things about himself that were a mystery up until now.I hope Luke puts out another book as a young adult, and again as an older adult to chronicle his experiences through his life.Thanks Luke and Tony for a great gift!
