Beautiful journey to love that shows the depth and determination of first love. Elliott’s home life is less than stellar so he usually is shipped off to his aunt and uncles house for the summer. His Aunt Leigh loves him, though she is tough to know, but she inspires him with his first camera. As he explores town to take pictures, he sees Catherine and his heart is stolen. Now, it takes years for this boy to actually talk to her but when he does, a true friendship is born. Catherine’s world is tainted by her families’ past in town which follows her like a black cloud which hinders her from making friends. When she meets Elliott, she isn’t sure what to think but she needs an escape from her parents fighting which opens her eyes to a true friend. Then Catherine’s world crashes down on her while Elliott gets ripped away against his will. When Elliott makes it back to Catherine a few years later, he is determined to get Catherine back. But will Catherine let him in, a lot has changed over the years. I love Catherine’s strength, she is a teenager, navigating a small-town world that she didn’t make but gets judged by every day. She doesn’t always see her own strength but she is a true warrior. Elliott, oh Elliott, his love for Catherine is limitless and is willingness to throw himself at her mercy is heartwarming. He faces his own challenges due to his ethnicity and his mother’s prejudices about Oak Creek. This is an emotional roller-coaster that shocked me while it captured my heart for this couple to find the happiness they both truly deserve.
This book was nothing less than amazing. I can’t wait for everyone to read it. They’ll love it....I’d expect nothing less from anything written by Jamie McGuire. Her books always draw me in and leave me wanting more. You meet Elliot and Catherine when they’re just kids, but circumstances takes them away form each other. Can true love always find a way and reunite 2 hearts? Can true love survive a secret? Secrets always come to light. This book is an emotional read...it had all the feels I crave as a reader. I never saw it coming....
This book had me from the beginning! I was stuck to the pages like glue, trying to figure out what was going to happen next and what the big secret was. I came up with a bunch of different scenarios, but each one in my head had me coming back and thinking, no way, it can't be that! It turned out to be better then any of my thoughts, and I never saw it coming! Jamie has done it again, she is my favorite for a reason. Mind blown by this book. A 're-read for sure! Highly recommended!!
The second I heard Jamie McGuire was working on a new book, I knew I was going to read it. No hesitation. Now that I have, I’m once again blown away! This is so much different than anything else she’s written but it’s absolutely amazing per usual. From the first page I was sucked in. I could feel every emotion. I could see the shadows and the lights battling.A girl with a secret. The hope and wonder of teen love. Glimpses into a girl with wisdom and struggles beyond her years. It all tied together so beautifully!!I know this is a book I will revisit over and over again even if I never get the answers I am searching for. As a reader I know a piece of The Juniper and the Guests will always live within me. Their secrets are now my secrets. It’s what makes All the Little Lights a thrilling experience readers will never forget.
I don't hand out 5 stars often, but Jamie McGuire really earned it with this book. Writing about a taboo subject in such a gentle way while teaching your readers about it at the same time is hard. Jamie absolutely nailed it with this book!
Wow. I didn’t think anything could top the Maddox brothers but this comes pretty damn close! I adored this story â¤ï¸It was nothing like I thought it would be, which I love. I love being surprised, and this book certainly did that.First of all, I need to mention Elliott and how fierce his love is. Having had a disjointed childhood, he seems to have a better grasp on what/who he wants than most guys his age. His love for Catherine is unwavering and something so beautiful. I adored watching him grow throughout the story.Catherine is this complex girl who holds the world’s problems on her shoulders. Desperate to protect her mama and also her friends, she pushes everyone away until she’s left with barely anyone on her side.When something happens to rock the town at its very foundations, Catherine and Elliott find themselves stuck in the middle. She is used to be an outcast, but Elliott is branded guilty by association. His temper doesn’t exactly help his case.I won’t say any more because I don’t want to ruin it, but this book will have you on the edge of your seat, questioning everything. I didn’t see the ending coming at all.Definitely one of my top reads this year!
This book is very different than what we’re used to from this author. Not bad. Just different. At times is was a bit slow. It took me until about 30% to really get into it but I pushed on because this author hasn’t disappointed me yet. All I can say is she didn’t here either. The ending was a great plot twist. The relationship between Elliott and Catherine seemed a little one-sided for longer than I would have liked, but when it evened out, it was beautiful. I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 because there were some unanswered questions. I’ll state only one because it won’t give anything away. Why was Tess allowed inside of Juniper, but no one else was? All in all ATLL was a book worth reading for sure.
