We used this book as a bridge for my daughter to do over the summer before 4th grade, so she wouldn't forget her 3rd grade math skills, and maybe even be a little ahead of the herd when school starts. I like that this book is very straight forward. It's not a whole bunch of games that overshadow the actual math. It's just a book with a bunch of math problems. I like that, but my 9 year old doesn't necessarily like the book. She has not enjoyed doing the math pages over the summer.However, I'm going to give the book the benefit of the doubt just because I know there are kids out there who enjoy doing pages of math (my son would be numbered among them), and she hated math before she started this book. Also, we don't give her, her ADHD meds during the summer so that probably made things worse. This book is ideal for helping kids work through lots of problems to cement the process in. It builds onto the skills the kids master in each section so it gets progressively harder. It also shows examples of how the math is done to teach them along the way. Overall, it's a good book, one that I'll probably use for my son in the future. For my daughter, I'll probably go with something with more fun mixed in.
My son is becoming 8yr soon. I started teaching math for my son since he was 3yr. He has to do one worksheet to get 20 min iPad time. So, everyday, he does at least 1 worksheet. On weekends, he usually does 4 worksheets.For math, I tried kimon, Carson-Dellosa skill builder series, super math, practice makes perfect series, etc. I started with Spectrum Math 1. Then, for 2nd and 3rd grade levels, I got Kumon, super math and practice makes perfect series - word problems. I supplemented with bunch of calculation worksheets I made my own. I realized Spectrum is the best among all. Now for 4th grade level, I am back to Spectrum. It has the content well ordered with lots of practice worksheets gradually getting more difficult and also with enough word problems. This math workbook alone is certainly not enough to master 4th grade math. So, my son is currently working on calculation practice and fraction (from carson-dellosa) . The section for +/- seems too much, so I skipped those pages.For grade 5 level, I am planning do get Spectrum Math 5 (probably skip some simple calculation pages again), then supplement with fraction, geometry and pre-algebra. For grade 6, again, I will start with Spectrum Math 6, then find some workbooks for specific topics.
This workbook has really helped my ten year old this summer. I’m glad I choose this one because I really wanted him to have a solid foundation before he enters the 5th grade. I love how it gives a review just in case mom forgot how to do the problems. Also I like how it gives a mix of problems and word problems.
Good practice books, but too much review of materials covered in prior years. Needs more in-depth practice of current year material — half the book replicated the prior grade.
This workbook is great for drilling to mastery. However, for a student it is dry, boring. I use it in homeschooling to companion DK's 10 Minutes a Day Math workbook. Only complete selected pages/problems to ensure practice and mastery. I like the variety of problems and word problems offered to make sure student truly understands the problem back/forth/up/down.
My child hates me for making him do math during the summer, but was severely behind in math. This book is great practice as each section has easy, clear, and detailed examples. Enough pages of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions that I know he now understands how to do the math properly. Highly recommended as extra practice for those who need it before the upcoming school year. Would be excellent refresher for those who know it already
So good I'm buying it for my other child 2 years later! We prep for the lessons that week beforehand. Military family who moves a lot with lots of different expectations, this has helped our kids to excel! Writing book is great too
I didn’t order this product , but I received it. Then, I received an email telling me that they were sorry that it had been a mistKe. I was told that I could dispose of it. I only have a six year old so I threw it away. Then I received an email to send it back to amazon. I couldn’t because I had thrown it away. So, the money was taken from me.
